The Electrometric Titration of Lecithin and Cephalin”

چکیده
It has been recognized for some years that lecithin is an internally neutralized compound (1). The neutralization takes place between a strongly acidic group and a strongly basic group. Solutions of lecithin therefore may be expected to show no buffering power within the physiological range and this has been observed to be the case (24). The internal neutralization of lecithin has led to the practice of writing its formula in the ring or “anhydride” form (1, 3, 5). This formula involves the concept of a nitrogen atom with five bonds, an idea foreign to present theories of valence (6-8). It is thought better to write the formula of lecithin as

Studies on Lipids of Barracuda, Sphyraena pinguis
(1) The characteristics of the lipids (acetone-soluble lipid, lecithin, cephalin and sphingolipid) obtained from barracuda, Sphyraena pinguis GUNTHER, were studied from the view point of fat metabolism of fish. (2) Forty-one fresh sample fish caught in the Komekami fishing ground near Odawara City (west part of Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan) on the 4th of October, 1959, were extracted with acetone...
متن کاملThe Oxidative Determination of Phospholipid (lecithin and Cephalin) in Blood
With the increasing interest in the lipids as important factors in the essential processes of living matter, the need for accurate methods of measurement is too obvious to need comment. Especially needful are methods which can be used on small amounts of material such as can be obtained without great inconvenience from the living animal. Micro methods for phospholipids are already available for...

متن کاملNew, partially hydrolyzable synthetic analogues of lecithin, phosphatidyl ethanolamine, and phosphatidic acid.
The synthesis of two new synthetic analogues of lecithin, two of phosphatidyl ethanolamine ("cephalin"), and one new phosphatidic acid analogue is described. They comprise one of each of the following types: the "isosteric" diether lecithin and cephalin analogues ROCH(2)CH(OR)- CH(2)CH(2)P(O) (O(-))OCH(2)CH(2)N(+)R'(3) (R = C(18)H(37); R' = H or CH(3)); and the "hydrocarbon" analogues of phosph...
